eDIT The Filmmaker's Festival

The interchange between Oscar winners and aspiring filmmakers, professionals and cinema enthusiasts and its creative atmosphere and intimate character is what every year turns “eDIT The Filmmaker’s Festival” in Frankfurt am Main into a platform for filmmakers from all over the globe.

eDIT The Filmmaker’s Festival has already taken place twelve times. At last edition’s academic symposia the speakers included Paul Docherty, visual effects supervisor of "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus" and the Oscar-winning editor of "The Slumdog Millionaire", Chris Dickens amongst others. The accompanying five-day “Best of Festival” presented award-winning productions at the E-Kinos, the CineStar Metropolis, and the Orfeo’s Erben cinemas.

Whether Anne V. Coates, Giuseppe Rotunno, Roland Emmerich, Michael Ballhaus, Tippi Hedren, Terry Gilliam or Armin Müller-Stahl – they’ve all attended eDIT The Filmmaker’s Festival. And they’ve all discussed film production in the digital age, talked shop and given the audience profound insights into their work.

During three days, there are more than 40 events attended by over 8.000 participants. The combination of screenings, presentations, workshops and interviews makes the programme of the Filmmaker’s Festival a unique experience for visitors every year.

Traditionally, the awarding of the Festival Honors and of the eDward –The Young Filmmaker’s Award takes place at the opening gala of eDIT The Filmmaker’s Festival. In 2009, the Festival Honors award was received by the famous film editor Chris Lebenzon, presented by Premier Roland Koch. Furthermore, the festival posthumously honoured the creator of the Bond films, Albert “Cubby” Broccoli. The festival’s Special Achievement Award went to Christoph Waltz for his role in the current Tarantino film “Inglourious Basterds”. Ricardo Aronovich received the IMAGO Tribute.

eDward is the competition for young filmmakers and is advertised internationally. The contestants are invited to shoot a 30-second film on a topic that changes annually.

eDIT:eDucation is a crash course in digital film production geared towards high-school graduates and first-year students in particular, which annually introduces up to 2.000 young people to the basics of film production in the digital age.

Cooperating partners are A.C.E. (American Cinema Editors) and IMAGO, the European Federation of Cinematographers.

eDIT The Filmmaker’s Festival is sponsored by the Hessisches Ministerium für Wissenschaft und Kunst (HMWK) (Hessian Ministry for Science and the Arts), the Landesanstalt für privaten Rundfunk in Hessen (LPR) (the regulatory authority for commercial broadcasting in Hesse) and the City of Frankfurt am Main.
