The programme highlight of the Festival consists of current productions of the young Japanese cinema. They are screened mainly as premieres and are usually presented personally by the film-makers. Via the forum of the Festival full length and short Japanese films are offered the chance of being seen by a larger German public and possibly finding a distributor.
Nippon Connection arose from a student initiative aimed at making young Japanese cinema and culture in general known and accessible to a wider German audience. Consequently in addition to its films the Festival offers an extensive flanking programme: concerts by Japanese bands, exhibitions, a play station contest, lectures, discussions, as well as presentations of typical Japanese cultural specialities, for example Haiki, Ikebana and Kendo. The programme is rounded off by the festival lounge and parties with Japanese DJs.
