Political theatre by Brecht or the absurd by Becket – performing since the eighties, the ensemble focuses on current topics in various styles.
In 1986, Alexander Bussmann, production graduate of the Max-Reinhardt Seminar, Vienna, organized an acting workshop in “Kunsthaus Frankfurt”, next to the Mouson Factory, which is today’s arts centre Mousonturm. It was a meeting point of not yet established musicians, dancers and actors. Improvisation and spontaneity were called for and the get-togethers possessed the character of sessions. Participants in the workshop were politically active: they demonstrated against the construction of the runway Startbahn West and questioned the then role of the woman, for example with the drama group “Xanthippe”. The idea of founding a theatre group arose and Club Voltaire, a stronghold of the sixties movement, witnessed the birth of the ensemble Voilà, which still today is seen as political theatre.
