Society for Frankfurt History

The Society is a key information centre for Frankfurt history and constitutes an instrument for representing historical interests in science, politics, journalism and the public at large. The Society was founded in 1837 by the then incumbent mayor, nine jurors and 11 senators of the free city as “Society for Frankfurt’s History and Art”.

Consequently its goals still today are to promote the historical knowledge of its members, support scientific research and to provide a range of information for the public. The Society has published the magazine “Archive for Frankfurt’s History and Art” since 1839 and since 1962 the series “Studies in Frankfurt History” and other special publications.
