The idea of Live Music Now
Yehudi Menuhin founded the European organization Live Music Now in 1977. The association was set up under the same name in Munich in 1992.
Live Music Now communicates Lord Menuhin’s fundamental conviction that music is also therapy, thereby integrating it with the promotion of young artists at the outset of their careers. Music is above all intended to benefit those people unable to attend concerts because of their situation.
Playing music for such people not only gives the listeners strength and comfort, for the performing musicians it is also a moving experience important for a successful career.
Organization
The association YEHUDI MENUHIN Live Music Now (LMN) organizes admission-free concerts for people in hospitals, old peoples’ homes, orphanages, nursing homes and other social institutions.
Budding professional musicians aged up to 30, singers up to 33, may apply to Live Music Now. At auditions at music colleges they are selected according to stringent criteria by a jury of college professors and included in the LMN support scheme. In arranging the programmes for individual concerts they are advised by music therapists/educationalists. The musicians are paid a fee for concerts.
Concerts are financed exclusively by donations. The charitable and non-profit-making Association depends on donations and issues donation receipts.
Both individual and corporate donors are welcome.
All members of LMN work on an honorary basis.
