Vocalis, Frankfurt

Vocalis is a chamber choir of around 18 specially chosen voices, founded in 1991 primarily for the performance of a-cappella works of the Renaissance. Founder/director Robin Doveton is an English professional singer who sang and studied at King's College, Cambridge. His aim has been to introduce Vocalis' members and their audiences to the best of the English choral tradition as well as to maintain a thoroughly international outlook.

The core of Vocalis' work is their extensive repertoire of Renaissance music, which includes masses, motets and madrigals by great masters such as Josquin, Palestrina, Guerrero and Byrd as well as many delightful pieces by lesser-known composers. However, Vocalis also specialises in the interpretation of English choral music of all periods, from the 15th C. through Purcell, Parry, Stanford, Vaughan Williams, Howells and Britten. Director Robin Doveton has also successfully introduced a number of his own international folksong and carol arrangements to Vocalis' audiences.

Vocalis' concert programmes always aim to be varied, uplifting and intellectually stimulating. The singers enjoy the challenge of singing ambitious and sonorous music for 5 or more voices and are often to be heard in a double choir formation. Vocalis regularly performs in Frankfurt, particularly in St. Josef, Eschersheim and, during Advent, in the Dreikönigskirche and has sung Evensong in a number of English Cathedrals. They have also made many successful appearances in concert series and at other special events (official prize-givings, weddings etc.). Rehearsals are held at the Christ-König Kirche, Ffm-Praunheim.
