Motettenchor Frankfurt was founded in 1991 by students and musicians. Intensive rehearsal work has made the Motet Choir a flexible and proficient ensemble that has established an excellent reputation in the Rhine-Main region. Concerts are held in Frankfurt and its immediate vicinity several times annually. The choir has also performed throughout Germany, in France, Italy, Spain and Russia.
The choir's musical repertoire ranges from demanding a capella works from several different centuries through concertante opera performances such as Giuseppe Niccolini's Carlo Magno to Arvo Pärt's Passio (St. John Passion), first performed in Frankfurt in the Naxoshalle.
A speciality is the series "Choir Music and Literature" conceived by Thomas Hanelt. With this series the Choir has managed to attract famous actors and thereby make music and literature thrilling aural experiences.
The choir has developed concert programmes together with many internationally famous artists, such as the clarinetist Giora Feidman, and has premiered a number of compositions in cooperation with the Ensemble Modern at Frankfurt LAB.
Since 2001 the choir has organized the Frankfurt Singalong, an event that enjoy cult status in the Frankfurt choir scene.
For forthcoming concerts we are seeking male/female singers. Choir experience and a singing audition are necessary. Choir rehearsals are every Monday at 8 p.m at the Friedrich-Dessauer-Haus, Friedrich-Wilhelm-von-Steubenstraße 90 in Frankfurt/Hausen. Two practice weekends a year help to consolidate any new material learned.
