Looking for the blue source of an imaginary folklore

LA SOURCE BLEUE sees the popular roots of modern jazz in a tradition founded by musicians such as Ornette Coleman, Eric Dolphy, and Don Cherry and continued by figures such as Louis Sclavis or Steve Lacy. Open for other cultures, in favour of a European tradition, not subscribing to jazz commonplaces, and carried by a strong feeling for swing.

Drummer Bülent Ates came from Istanbul many years ago on the invitation of Albert Mangelsdorff and has since become firmly established on Frankfurt’s music scene. He has worked with Heinz Sauer, Bob Degen, Harry Petersen, and Alfred Harth, amongst others.

Thomas Honecker is at home in all aspects of contemporary guitar playing. He plays with trombonist Christoph Tewes and drummer Jörg Fischer in the YAHOOs, is part of the guitar trio “Endlich 18” (18 at last), the Frauke Kühner Quartett, and has his own quartet.

Bass-player Michael Distelmann toured Europe and America with Baroque ensembles, before he discovered his passion for Jazz. He studied under Vitold Rek and is a valued member of numerous bands in the Rhine Main area.

Michael Bossong jams with actors, dancers, choirs, and the saxophone outfit „Les Saxofous“, and has played with Jürgen Wucher, Uli Partheil, and Christoph Tewes.
