The concert series "Konzert unterm Dach" is arranged by the DEA - the German Ensemble Academy. The DEA was founded in 1987 in Frankfurt as the umbrella association of the Supporters of the Young Philharmonics. Objective of the Association is to cultivate, distribute and further develop classical and contemporary orchestra and ensemble music. A further goal is to offer specially qualified musicians the opportunity to perform together with star interpreters. The foundation of a support association was take take into account the fact that the named ensembles must fund the major portion of project costs by own revenues. Thanks to the financial support of the DEA, the youth and professional ensembles that are promoted are guaranteed their required artistic freedom.
Concerts are held in the headquarters of the DEA in the Schwedlerstr. 2-4 in Frankfurt's east end. They offer ensembles under the umbrella of the DEA, such as Ensemble Modern, Young German Philharmonic, Ensemble Resonanz or Bach Blech Blues, a forum for presenting themselves in recitals and chamber music groupings. A social get-together between artists and public then follows. This and the unique atmosphere prevailing in the rehearsal setting of a former factory contribute to the widespread popularity of the concerts.
