Since foundation in the year 1808 the Frankfurt Museum Society has been closely involved with the cultural life of the City of Frankfurt and thanks to its Museum Concerts and Chamber Music Evenings, held now in the Frankfurt Alte Oper, the Society has shaped the musical profile of the City.
As a charitable organization the "Museum" is maintained by its many committed members and friends, without whose subscriptions and donations the far-reaching concert programme and activities would not be possible. Following is a selection:
The Introductory Lectures on symphony concerts held by Paul Bartholomäi are a popular and enthusiastically attended series for concert lovers; the Family Concerts have become successfully established in recent years and enjoy overwhelming support; the Discussion Concerts with soloists of the Orchestra Concerts repeatedly find the grateful acknowledgement of pupils and teachers; with the Seniors Residence Concerts the Society fulfils its social commitment as traditional Frankfurt society.
Also worthy of mention are the Competitions for Amateur Musicians, which meet with enormous response and offer a platform for "hobby" musicians at a high artistic level, as well as the International Conductor Competition "Sir Georg Solti", which is held every two years under the patronage of Lady Solti.
