Founded in 1946 as the "Accordion Club Frankfurt am Main Bonames/Siedlung", the club was renamed to the above in 1960.
In 1977, the musical direction of the orchestra was transferred from A. Geisel to Rainer Bittner, who still holds responsibility today. His many contributions include particularly the youth support projects and the foundation of the Frankfurter Akkordeon Ensemble, composed of talented members of the Orchestra and other accordion players from the Frankfurt area.
Keynote of the work of the Ensemble is the interpretation of demanding concertante literature. Highlights of the group's recent history include Orchestra concert trips, concerts held since 1984 in the Festburgkirche in Frankfurt and, since 1982, performances with Hessische Rundfunk (Radio Hessen).
CD productions of performances by the Akkordeon Orchester Frankfurter Berg and the Frankfurter Akkordeon Ensemble document the high musical standard of both groups.
