Fritz Rémond Theater im Zoo

Amusing entertainment and ambitious acting, works of classical and contemporary writers are offered on the stage of the function centre of Frankfurt Zoo.

The Fritz Rémond Theater is named in memory of the actor Fritz Rémond, who founded the theatre in 1947 in the function centre of the Zoo upon a suggestion by Bernhard Grzimek.

In the beginning Rémond arranged his programme according to the accumulated needs of his audiences, namely for international contemporary drama, but in later years he increasingly presented lighter theatrics.

In 1995 Claus Helmer, Director of “Komödie”, took over at his own risk the Rémond stage as second playhouse. He saved the debt-ridden theatre and guided it to a new and positive future.

The programme offers amusing histrionic entertainment and sophisticated literature, humorous and thought-provoking, classical and contemporary playwrights.
