The vds Hessen is an independent state association in the Association of German School Musicians. As a professional and occupational association it represents music teachers at polytechnic and occupational training colleges, as well as teachers and students of musical pedagogic faculties of music colleges, universities and other higher seats of learning. The goals and assignments of vds hessen are supported by patrons.
The most important general goals of vds hessen are
- to at least maintain the status of the school subject music in all its forms
- to ensure that the school subject music is taught professionally and in accordance with our times
- to promote active music playing during music lessons
- to make the public at large aware of the significance of playing music and the school subject music.
To achieve this vds hessen
- works at the political level (ministries, state parliament) and with the main (music)pedagogical bodies (state music council, state parents' committee)
- offers training and further training courses
- annually organizes the interchange events "Schools play music" on a Hessen-wide basis
- organizes the state concert "Schools play music" in the Grosse Saal of the Wiesbaden Kurhaus
