Riehm, Rolf (1937)

Rolf Riehm inititally studied music education in Frankfurt am Main; from 1958 onwards, he studied composition under Wolfgang Fortner in Freiburg. Riehm co-founded the Frankfurter Vereinigung für Musik which existed from 1964 until 1970. From 1974 until 2000, Rolf Riehm was Professor of Composition and Music Theory at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts. From 1976 until 1981, he was a member of the legendary Frankfurt music group Sogenanntes Linksradikales Blasorchester. Concert and lecture tours and workshops have taken him to date to Sweden, Middle and South America, and Japan. He was awarded the Premio Marzotto per la Musica in 1968; in 1971, he was awarded a fellowship for the Villa Massimo in Rome. In 1992, he received the Kunstpreis des Saarlandes (Saarland Arts Award), and in 2002 the Hanau Paul Hindemith Award. In 2010, Riehm was elected to become a member of the Berlin Academy of Arts.
