Weltkulturen Museum

The Museum of World Cultures, formerly the Museum of Ethnology, brings people together and provides opportunities to encounter and experience others. Located in the city of Frankfurt, with a population representing over 180 different nationalities, the Museum of World Cultures offers a public sphere for intercultural exchange, dialogue and understanding culture. It is also an institution encouraging the appreciation and respect of cultural difference as well as presenting our own culture and world view as just one of many possible ways of human life.

The Museum recognizes its responsibility to raise awareness of global issues and to open up discursive spaces for reflection and inquiry. Exhibitions and events organized by the Museum offer new and critical insight into the meanings of life, death, descent, gender and age. Issues of social integration and exclusion, status and power as well as concepts like nature and culture are also explored.

The Museum introduces art work created by artists from the Americas, Africa, Oceania and Indonesia to a previously unfamiliar European audience. In the educatioal programme anthropological expertise is joined with creative activity in a wide range of educational programs for children, youth and adults.
