University Library Johann Christian Senckenberg

 

Its comprehensive inventory and collections make the University Library Johann Christian Senckenberg one of the central scientific libraries in Germany. The “Municipal and University Library Frankfurt am Main” and the “Senckenberg Library”, founded in 1763, were merged on 1. January 2005. The patronage was simultaneously moved from the City Frankfurt am Main to the State of Hessen.

The library possesses an inventory of more than five million books and magazines This scientific literature is not only at the disposal of students: fundamentally anyone interested aged over 16 can apply for a library card if they live, work, study or attend school in the administrative district of Rheinhessen (Rheinland-Pfalz). Users can also access and order online all media via a web-based catalogue portal. Furthermore it contains the inventories of many institutes and the special libraries of the University.

These special libraries include:

• the Library of Law and Economics (BRuW)
• the Library of Social and Educational Sciences (BGE)
• the Art and Music Library
• the Library Centre Niederursel for Chemistry and Physics
• the Central Medical Library of the University Clinic
