The junge kantorei is a choir of a very special kind: a “professional amateur choir” whose extensive musical repertoire and specific performing style have bestowed it with a characteristic profile.
80 to 120 singers form the junge kantorei and it consists of four partial choirs that are domiciled in Frankfurt am Main, Bonn, Heidelberg and Marburg an der Lahn. A mutual programme is rehearsed decentrally.

The choir’s history begins in the year 1961: Joachim Carlos Martini is asked to form a youth choir as part of the educational programme of the Evangelical Church of Hessen and Nassau. The “Hessen Pupils Choir” soon establishes its reputation through numerous concerts at home and abroad. In 1968, it merges with the student choir of Frankfurt University, the “Frankfurt Motettenchor” and the “Dornbusch Kantorei” to form the junge kantorei. Thanks to a wide range of baroque, classical, romantic and modern alla cappella works and oratorios, it quickly advances to a vocal ensemble of international standing.

The junge kantorei is open to everyone who enjoys choral singing and is prepared to rehearse intensively. Auditions or admission tests are not necessary.
