Sing- und Spielkreis Frankfurt

Thanks to its successful participation in German and international choir competitions, the Sing- und Spielkreis Frankfurt is one of the leading girls' choirs in Germany. Awards include the Gold Medal in the Hungarian School Choir Competition, 1. Prize in the Int. Music Festival in La Rochelle, France, the Culture Prize of the BVB Volksbank Bad Vilbel and many others. During 45 trips abroad the Choir has received numerous distinctions, e.g. the Honorary medal of Holy Benedict from the Abbot of the Cloister Monte Cassino, the Golden Key of the City of Tel Aviv, the Honorary Medal of the City of Jerusalem, the Friendship Medal of the State Philharmonic Riga/Latvia. Outstanding tours took the Frankfurt girls to Japan, China, the Soviet Union, the St. Peters Cathedral, the Milan Cathedral, the Cathedral of Coventry and the Church of Redemption in Jerusalem. An invitation to Ireland was extended by the Royal Society Dublin. The Chamber Choir has sung before State President Mitterand, von Weizsäcker, the Japanese Emperor and Empress, at many official functions of the City of Frankfurt and has organized "German Advent Singing" in Helsinki.

The Choir's repertoire ranges from the Renaissance to contemporary and entertaining literature. It has enabled the Choir to participate at the Frankfurt Opera Ball, in the film "Der Schattenmann", in a Viennese Opera Ball with the Johann Strauss Orchestra in Peking and in 14 television appearances with famous artists. In the flanking program of EXPO 98 in Lisbon and at the State Celebrations on the 50. Jubilee of the State of Israel, the Sing- und Spielkreis represented the Federal Republic as the only German choir.
The salon ensemble "Allegro", composed of Choir members, entertains according to the occasion.

Since foundation in 1970, the 75 girls between the ages of 9 and 25 have sung under the direction of the founder Heinz Marx. He studied under Prof. Kurt Thomas between 1953 and 1956. He also convenes with leading European choir experts. For his honorary activities and outstanding youth work he has won various awards, including the Order of the Federal Republic of Germany, 1. Class.
