The "Philharmonic Association" manages a symphony orchestra consisting of ca. 70 ambitious amateur and several professional musicians of all age groups. Two to three concert projects are rehearsed and performed annually.
In the tradition of Frankfurt's democratic civic principles the Association is self-organizing. The members decide on concert programmes, ensemble questions and organizational matters.
The repertoire is made of up of works from all epochs, whereby due to the line-up as full symphony orchestra the focus is currently on works from the 19th and early 20th centuries.
Armin Rothermel has conducted the Orchestra since 1981. He studied in Frankfurt and Heidelberg as choirmaster (under Prof. Gerald Kegelmann) and orchestra conducting (under Prof. Klaus Eisenmann and Mario Verzago). In 1992, Armin Rothermel founded the "Orfeo Choir Frankfurt". He has conducted the Choir of the Frankfurt Chamber Opera since 1999.
