The “Seniors’ Orchestra of the Frankfurt Association” was founded in 1979. Its purpose and objective being to offer older people who play an instrument the opportunity of playing and enjoying music together.
The 30-35 musicians of senior age, all amateurs, have been directed by Conductor Rail Grodzenski since 1994. The line-up of recorder and flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, percussion, piano, accordion, mandolin, violin, cello, E-bass and E-guitar corresponds virtually to that of a palm court orchestra.
The repertoire ranges from operettas and musical melodies to waltzes, marches, polkas and evergreens. The Orchestra can be heard on the premises of the “Frankfurt Verband”, in Frankfurt Palmengarten, in Frankfurt community centres and at places in the surrounding district. The orchestra is supported in its performances by soprano Petra Bornhövd.
Concert tours throughout Germany and abroad (Vienna, Budapest, Barcelona) have extended the popularity of the Orchestra way beyond Frankfurt.
New members are always welcome. Anyone playing an instrument and with knowledge of music is heartily welcome to the Frankfurt “Buena vista social club”.
Rehearsals of the orchestra: Mondays from 9:30 to 12:30 at the Sozialzentrum Marbachweg, Dörpfeldstr 6, F-Eckenheim.
