High-grade music theatre is the hallmark of Frankfurt Opera. In 2018, Oper Frankfurt was once again voted "Opera House of the Year" by Opernwelt magazine as before in 2015, a title shared with Nationaltheater Mannheim, having already received this distinction before in 2003, then also under the current artistic director and general manager Bernd Loebe. In 2009, the critic survey by “Opernwelt” rated the Museumsorchester Frankfurt as “Orchestra of the Year” and the soprano singer Christiane Karg, ensemble member of Oper Frankfurt, as “Emerging Artist of the Year”. Moreover, the theatre magazine "Die Deutsche Bühne" voted Oper Frankfurt the theatre with the best programme for the 2014/2015 season. This was the first time that Oper Frankfurt has been awarded the top spot by both magazines’ critics in the same year.
Following its nomination as “Opera of the Year” by the journal “Opernwelt” in 2003, in two consecutive seasons 2006/2007 and 2007/2008 Frankfurt Opera again received awards of distinction: in a survey of 50 critics the magazine “Die Deutsche Bühne”, published by the “German Stage Association”, elected Frankfurt Opera with a total of seven nominations for the top rating in the category “Best Overall Performance".
Since the beginning of the office of Director Bernd Loebe in the season 2002/2003 the artistic profile of the Opera has taken on a new definition, as aptly reflected by the recent award and the positive echo from the public. General Music Director Sebastian Weigle, the soloists team, the Opera Choir and the Museumsorchestra form the infrastructure for musical achievements at an outstanding level. Each season the programme includes new productions, many other premieres and numerous repeat productions.
