The Mainsirenen have been an integral part of Frankfurt's homosexual community since 1987. With generous helpings of humour and self-irony they never fail to captivate their audience, make them laugh and ruminate. At the last "Various Voices" festival of homosexual and lesbian choirs in Berlin, the Mainsirenen presented its current programme with a new insight into the gay disposition: "The Way We Were - that enigmatic child", which had recently celebrated its premiere in Frankfurt with dazzling success.
The choir is traditionally focused on diverse themes such as the search for the prince in shining armour, the Mainsirenen in the Wild West or everyday gay life. In 1997, the Mainsirenen was awarded the Choir Prize of the Frankfurt Sparkasse 1822 for their innovative choral presentation "Living with AIDS". Brand image of the group is the professional arrangement of songs. As a Frankfurt institution the choir is committed to social involvement and sings, for example, at the annual World Aids Day in the Paulskirche.
Mainsirenen has won pan-regional awareness by numerous invitations, for instance to the south German choir festival "Südluscht 2000" in Stuttgart. Choirs from throughout Europe and even from Melbourne Australia have also been guests in Frankfurt am Main.
