Music for All Tastes
hr - the Hessen Radio Station - not only offers music for all tastes on its six radio channels and one television channel, but above all via its comprehensive concert programme. The repertoire ranges from classical subscriber concerts of the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra (hr-Sinfonieorchester) to numerous cooperative chamber music activities, from performances of the hr Big Band to the "Forum New Music", from special youth concerts and the hr2-children's concerts to jazz and world music, from rock, pop and evergreens to techno, house and hiphop.
It is the ensembles of hr above all that have won international standing way beyond the borders of the state of Hessen. The hr-Sinfonieorchester under its head conductor Andrés Orozco-Estrada and the hr Big Band under head conductor Jum McNeely are more than ever flagships of the Hessische Rundfunk.
An annual highlight for all jazz aficionados is the German Jazz Festival Frankfurt. Held regularly since 1953, it is the oldest ongoing jazz festival in the world. As showpiece and symbol of jazz metropolis Frankfurt, its much-acclaimed profile includes giving German musicians the opportunity to present productions off the beaten track and also to play alongside jazz greats from abroad.
