In 1898, the workers' singing club "Frohsinn Folk Choir Rödelheim" emerged from the men's' singing club "Immergrün", which had been set up seven years previously. The club was extended by a women's choir in 1920 and active also was a theatre group, which rehearsed and performed operettas and lyrical dramas until its politically enforced closure in 1933. The Choir and the Club were given the unrestricted sanction to recontinue their activities in October 1945.
The Choir has participated in numerous choir competitions at local and regional level up to the Federal Singing Festival. Numerous concerts and functions are arranged on own initiative.
The decline in membership in the sixties led to a reorientation of the Club: today the Frohsinn Folk Choir Rödelheim is a mixed choir, consisting predominantly of "mature" persons. It sings together autonomously but regularly with a neighbouring choir.
In addition to traditional choir music and folksongs, today the Choir performs above all entertaining pieces from musicals, operettas, opera etc., for example salon music, chansons, oldies and evergreens arranged specifically for the Choir by the choirleader.
Weekly rehearsals are held on Wednesday from 19 to 21.00h in the Rödelheim clubhouse, Friedel-Schomann-Weg 7 in Frankfurt Rödelheim. Anyone interested is cordially invited.
