The First General Pop Choir Frankfurt was founded in 2005. The objective was to set up a choir whose modern repertoire appealed to young people and inspired them to join in, furthermore to present to the public an outstanding programme of familiar music in captivating arrangements.
The choir collective has grown from originally one to five groups to date, with different areas of interest. The five choirs (Mainvoices, Mainstimmig, Maingroove, Mainmelodies and Mainevent) each meet once a week and rehearse four-part to six-part pop-music arrangements. Several times a year there are public performances.
Mainvoices, directed by Thomas Schnabel, performs English-language pop songs like Gossip's Heavy Cross, Coldplay's Fix You, Alice Cooper's Poison, and Adele's Rolling in the Deep.
Mainstimmig sings German pop songs like Männer und Frauen by Die Ärzte, Weil ich dich liebe by Max Mutzke and Ganz anders by Udo Lindenberg and Jan Delay as well as English songs like Happy by Pharell Williams and Change the World by Eric Clapton – frequently adapted by choir leader Clemens Schäfer.
Maingroove is the association’s choir with the youngest members, ranging from ages 13 to 28. Songs like Titanium by David Guetta & Sia, Counting Stars by One Republic, or School‘s out by Alice Cooper are included in their repertory. The choir leader is Katja Blumenhein.
Mainmelodies is an all-female choir led by Thomas Schnabel and sings hits like It‘s Raining Men by The Weather Girls or Kiss from a Rose by Seal.
Those wishing to join and sing are cordially invited to take part in the rehearsals and acquaint themselves with the choir and its work. After 2-3 trial sessions a brief voice diagnosis is arranged for new members by the choir leader to integrate them into the appropriate vocal category.
Since late 2014, the event ensemble of the Popchor Frankfurt has been providing appealing musical programmes for weddings, anniversaries, and other special occasions. Their Mainevent choir is made up of their most talented and enthusiastic performers.
