The Chamber Choir of Frankfurt University was founded in autumn 1987 by its choirleader Christian Ridil.
Consisting of 24 female singers (predominantly University students), the ensemble concentrates on worldly and spiritual a cappella literature from the 16. to the 20. century, whereby lesser known works also find consideration. In addition to regular concerts in Frankfurt and vicinity, concert tours have taken the Choir to Poland, Italy, Hungary, Belgium and Mexico. At the 3. International Choir Competition in Budapest in 1991 the Choir won a Golden Diploma.
Alongside various radio recordings (HR, SDR, WDR) diverse CDs have been produced together with the Hessische Rundfunk. In autumn 1997, the Choir was invited to participate in the Choir Festival of the German Singer Association in Wernigerode. The Choir also sang at the Rhineland Palatinate Culture Weeks 1997. At the 1998 Catholic Day in Mainz the Choir performed several premieres, including one TV appearance. In October 1999, the Choir accepted several invitations to Mexico, including the festival "Cervantes en Todas Partes". A further CD was produced in 2001 on the Evangelical Church Day.
University Music Director Christian Ridil
Christian Ridil was educated at the Music Secondary School of the Regensburger Domspatzen, studied school music and composition (Prof. Günter Bialas) at Munich Music College and musicology at Augsburg University. He was the founder and long-standing director of the Augsburger Vocal Ensemble, which won international acclaim (radio and television productions, several albums). In 1984 he was called to the Musicology Institute in Frankfurt and appointed University Music Director in 1994. In the academic year 1992/92 Ridil was guest professor at Trenton State College, New Jersey/USA. He has won various awards for his compositional work. Ridil has recently also made his name as conductor of the Young Philharmonic Hessen Thüringen.
