Catholic Church Community Sankt Markus

Autumn 2002 marked the 125th jubilee of the St. Markus Choir. The early stages of the Choir's activities concentrated on the arrangement of church services, gradually changing to the performance of church concerts. However, the intensive cultivation of church music first flourished in the mid-fifties.

The breakthrough to major church music events was heralded by the new large Klais organ. The direction of Church Music Director Wendelin Röckel created an environment for developing "qualitative and quantitative church concerts".

Following are some of the major concerts: "C-Dur Messe" by Beethoven, "Das Deutsche Requiem" by Brahms, the "Dettinger Te Deum" by Händel, the "Grosse Te Deum" by Bruckner, the "Missa Brevis B-Dur" and "Requiem" by Mozart, the "Messa da Requiem" by Verdi, the "Messias" by Händel, the "Missa Solemnis" by Beethoven, the "Matthäus Passion" by Bach, "Der Elias" by Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, "Die Schöpfung" by Haydn and the "Weihnachts-Oratorium" by Bach.

In 2001 Mr. Wendelin Röckel went into retirement. His successor is Dr. Paulus Christmann whose major accomplishments to date include the Choir's performance of the 42nd Psalm by Mendelssohn-Bartholdy and the Choir's appearance at the Frankfurt Mendelssohn Days 2002.

The Choir rehearses on Wednesdays from 20-22h in the Pfarrzentrum, entrance Nieder Kirchweg (Kirchplatz).
