Arbeitsgemeinschaft Frankfurter Akkordeonvereine

Established in January 2000, this initiative brings together mutual interests: several of Frankfurt's accordion clubs are struggling for their musical survival, they would like to intensify their youth activities, are striving for public acceptance and face major problems in arranging public performances: there are simply not enough available players. As yet, each club has attempted to overcome these difficulties under their own steam. On the other hand, there are also accordion clubs with large capacities. Thus it was a logical step for Frankfurt's accordion clubs to work together for specific activities. The foundation of a joint orchestra and the organization of a workshop were the first steps in this direction.

Since then, conductors and active players from as yet six clubs (Akkordeon-Musikverein Heiterkeit von 1890 Frankfurt am Main-Griesheim e. V., Sachsenhäuser Akkordeon Orchester 1936, Akkordeana Frankfurter Akkordeon-Orchester 1949 e. V., Akkordeon-Orchester Frankfurter Berg, Akkordeon-Club Goldstein e. V., Akkordeon-Orchester Frankfurt-Heddernheim) have met on Saturdays ca. every 2-3 months at the premises of the Frankfurt Ruderclub 1884, Mainwasenweg 33, Frankfurt Sachsenhausen. Anyone wishing to attend should feel free to contact Sigrid Ohlenschläger (see below).

The workshop held at the beginning of February turned out to be a successful weekend for the participating musicians, directed by Fred Hector. The joint orchestra of the Frankfurt accordion clubs celebrated its premiere on 05 November 2000. Ca. 25 active players under the direction of Franz Weimer presented their program at this first performance.
And why exactly on 05 November 2000? On this date the Akkordeon-Musikverein Heiterkeit von 1890 Frankfurt am Main Griesheim e.V., Germany's oldest accordion club, celebrated its 110. anniversary with a jubilee concert.
