The Federal Association for Communal Film Work is the umbrella organization
of more than 160 communal German cinemas. Its primary function is to strengthen
and represent the interests of its members, i.e. maintaining and promoting
an independent and diverse film culture. In addition to PR activities the
Association also coordinates the activities of its members thus making
at all possible the demanding programmes that tour the various German cinemas.
A further function is a Germany-wide activity day that presents a joint
theme to the public. Lastly the Association awards two film prizes at the
International Film Festival in Berlin: the Caligari Film Prize for stylistic
and innovative contributions of the forum and the Liliput Film Prize for
particularly successful (or unsuccessful) dubbings. Within the scope of
its PR work the Association publishes the magazine "Kinema Kommunal", a
medium that informs about the activities of programme cinemas and coordinates
mutual interests. Furthermore the manual of cultural cinema work is meanwhile
indispensable as it bundles important information on legal questions, PR
activities, financing and cinema technology.
