The Stiftung Buchkunst (Book Art Foundation) has organized the annual book design competition »The Loveliest German Books« since 1951. The competition is focussed on the design and production of books from the previous year. Assessed are typesetting, printing, bookbinding quality, typographic design, concept and graphic design of the books.
Participation: the competition addresses all book designers, publishers, private printers, colleges and all institutions and companies involved with book production. Crucial for participation is the publication date of the pertinent book. Permitted are books from publishers domiciled in Germany. Books from foreign publishers are only permitted when production took place exclusively in Germany.
Prizes and distinctions: awards, meritorious recognitions, three special prizes and three promotion prizes for young book designers are available.
