The Renault Traffic Design Award is the first award for traffic architecture. It promotes pacesetting concepts for individual objects and interfaces in the traffic environment, as well as the awareness and appreciation for the overall composition. Awarded are constructions and architectural ideas that set future-oriented standards. In addition to objects that are already completed, enterprising and forward-looking blueprints by students are also awarded.

Participation
The Award addresses architects, designers, town and traffic planners and students of the corresponding disciplines. Under the auspices of the competition university chairs cooperate with city planning departments. Eleven German cities provide documentary material on specific planning assignments from communal practice, 33 chairs supervise the assignments. Students are confronted by problems currently prevailing in communal traffic planning.

Prizes and distinctions
Prizes are awarded in four categories. Winners receive a sculpture. Students are awarded a cash prize.
