The Design Prize of the Federal Republic of Germany, formerly Federal Prize Product Design, is the highest official design prize in the country and is awarded by the German Design Council on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economy and Technology. Products and personalities are honoured in annual rotation.
Like its forerunner – Federal Prize Product Design – participation in the award procedure takes place via nomination by the pertinent ministries of economy of the Federal States, respectively via the Federal Ministry of Economy (points of contact are the relevant design departments). Design achievements may be nominated that stem primarily from a state competition or a selection procedure acknowledged by the relevant Federal State. The number of nominations is unlimited.
Nominations for the Design Prize of the Federal Republic of Germany can be mass products from the fields product design (all branches) and communication design (analogue and digital products, respectively images).
