Markus Gardian, who originally studied Philosophy and German Literature, has been organising readings and concerts in Frankfurt since 1994. In locations as different as the Goethe University (the Asta summer parties), the Dreikönigskirche, Café Royal and Cooky’s (Monday concerts), amongst others. Gardian was Asta Head of Culture from 1996 to 2001.
Thanks to him, artists such as Tocotronic, Lou Reed & Laurie Anderson, Patti Smith, Feist, Deichkind, Cat Power or Max Goldt have played gigs in Frankfurt. “This man is important. If it weren’t for him, many bands would pass Frankfurt by without giving a concert.” (Frankfurter Rundschau)
Since 2001, he has been organising concerts at Künstlerhaus Mousonturm. Since the 2007/8 season, he has been curating the “Jazz im Museum” concert series and since 2008 the world music concerts at Palmengarten.
