Jazz in the Palmengarten

Jazz im Palmengarten is seen as the world's oldest "Open Air Series of Jazz Concerts". It is highly esteemed by a knowledgeable Frankfurt public since 1959, acclaimed due to its unique atmosphere in the loveliest garden the City of Frankfurt has to offer. The series is famous way beyond the borders of Germany. Numerous American, Japanese, Australian and most recently Cuban and European star musicians appearing here have transported the image of Jazz im Palmengarten to all corners of the world.

Present right from the start was Albert Mangelsdorff. He gave one concert annually with a different line-up, which he himself always selected. Up to the year 2002 he and all other musicians were always invited and announced by Werner WunderlichUp to the year 2002 all musicians were always invited and announced by Werner Wunderlich, the cofounder and organizer of Jazz im Palmengarten. Since 2003 the artistic management is in the hands of the Jazzinitiative Frankfurt e.V..
Despite all these venerable names and dates, Jazz im Palmengarten still remains an innovative concert series with young (and old) musicians, who continue to cultivate the image of Frankfurt as the Capital of Jazz.
