Frankfurter Positionen // A Festival for New Works

The Frankfurter Positionen festival, held for the first time in 2001, is an interdisciplinary festival of concerts, theatre, exhibitions, and performances. Every two years or so, the artists and speakers take measure of the processes of change in society and in our daily lives, either in their performances or in their contributions to the accompanying symposium, which takes the form of a series of daily lectures. In this way, the Frankfurter Positionen festival sets in motion a sustained creative process, with the aim of developing new perspectives and social imagination.

The festival is a project of the BHF-BANK Foundation, which commissions the new works of art to be premiered during the festival from the participating artists, in collaboration with independent panels of experts. The Frankfurter Positionen festival is supported by a broad cultural network in Frankfurt comprising 17 partner institutions at the last count. Since the project’s inception, more than 50 playwrights, visual artists, composers, choreographers, and film-makers have been invited to create new works of art in their field, and to present these works in cooperation with and on the premises of distinguished institutions during the festival.
