Every year, in the autumn, Venezuela on Film presents the diversity of Venezuelan cinema. Current feature length and short films as well as documentaries but also classics offer a taste of the young and highly creative Venezuelan film production. The carefully curated programme offers a wide spectrum of genres ranging from literary adaptations via film noir to musical films. At random intervals the organisers pay homage to important artists. Thus, in 2007, the rare opportunity presented itself to study the oeuvre of Román Chalbaud, one of the most important Venezuelan theatre- and filmmakers. Invited guests attend the festival and in person give the Frankfurt cinema-going public an understanding of the South American state’s filmmaking.
All films are shown in the original with subtitles.
The festival is realised in cooperation with the Consulate General of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and with the Centro Nacional Autónomo de Cinematografia (CNAC). Particular impetus for founding the festival was provided by Mr Osvelio Cesar Mendez Gonzalez.
