The programme of the 1975-established "Filmforum Hoechst" frequently comprises thematically arranged series, which can be devoted to a director, a film country or a specific subject.
This concept is intended to give filmgoers the opportunity to set films in their subjective, formal, historical and social relationships and to understand the development of film history. The spectrum of these theme blocks ranges from demanding commercial productions to obscure works from countries with little film cultural background.
In addition to the regular series and the weekly children's cinema are the festivals "Africa Alive" (January), "Cuba in Film" (May/June) and "New French Cinema" (November). At these festivals films are often shown that have never been screened in Germany or could not find German distribution.
