The MUSEUM MMK FÜR MODERNE KUNST was opened in 1991 and is today one of Europe’s leading museums. Designed by the Viennese architect Hans Hollein, the MMK is one of the most spectacular museum buildings of the post-modern. A visit to this modern art museum is an indispensable cultural experience in Frankfurt.
The MMK collection includes high-grade works of European and American art of the 60s to current positions of international contemporary art. Regular special exhibitions presented in context of the collection allow MMK to reassess its position as museum and as place of permanent change of perspectives. The key goal of MMK is to build up and communicate a collection of contemporary art.
The MUSEUM MMK FÜR MODERNE KUNST has been offered the additional space in the heart of Frankfurt’s famous Bankenviertel. The MMK was for a long time unable to exhibit more than just a fraction of its world-class collection of international contemporary art. Starting in mid-2014, the main premises on Domstrasse and at the ZOLLAMT MMK opposite are now to be supplemented by an annex in the TaunusTurm being built by property developer Tishman Speyer and Commerz Real AG. The initial fifteen-year lease will allow the museum to present a selection of its works to the public at the TOWER MMK.
