Performing baroque music in an exciting, unconventional way and at a high musical standard is the objective of the members of the "Main-Barockorchester Frankfurt". Top priority for the musicians of the orchestra is the use of authentic instruments and the intensive involvement with the historical sources, coupled with the playing enjoyment, virtuosity, musicality and spontaneity of their mutual work. Their aim is not to give an exact historical reproduction of "old music", but a modern and lively interpretation oriented to the established performing traditions, which innerly moves and stimulates musicians and audience alike.
The Orchestra's repertoire ranges from the early baroque instrumental music of Italy to the first symphonic works of early classicism. For the presentation of cantatas, passions and oratorios the Orchestra works regularly in extended size with various cantors and choirs.
Since autumn 1998, the Main-Barockorchester Frankfurt performs as fixed formation. Founded and supported by young, committed and professional musicians, the Orchestra has established a first-class reputation for the interpretation of baroque and early classical music extending way beyond the borders of Hessen. Regular cooperation with internationally renowned artists, recordings under the label Aelos and with the Hessische Rundfunk radio station, as well as sold-out and widely acclaimed concert series in Frankfurt and Gießen are apt testimony of the continuing, successful and qualitative high-grade work of the Orchestra.
