Holzhausenschlösschen

The Holzhausen Palace has been venue for art and culture since the Renaissance. Then, the walls of this fortified estate on the periphery of the town witnessed the meetings of a humanist group around Justinian von Holzhausen (1502-1583).
In the years 1727 to 1729, the building, then standing amid countryside, was reconstructed in rural French baroque style. The moated palace, since 1989 administered by the Frankfurt Citizens Foundation, is now one of the top Frankfurt addresses for classical concerts, jazz, author readings and exhibitions. It is thanks to the untiring commitment of its Managing Director Clemens Greve, familiarly known as "Palace Cat Ferdinand", that a diverse children's programme also enjoys wide popularity. The Foundation has also founded a series of scientific publications in Holzhausen Palace: "Patrons, Donators, City Culture". The series has won wide acclaim as exponent for questions on municipal history - for example, Goethe and women or Frankfurt cartoons during the Paulskirche revolution of 1848.
The wide range of the continually changing event programme can only be indicated here. A visit to Holzhausen Palace is highly recommended.
