Tradition and vision for the future all under one roof

Dr. Hoch's Konservatorium - Musikakademie Frankfurt am Main (Dr. Hoch’s Conservatory – Music Academy Frankfurt am Main) is a state-accredited educational institution with a long-standing tradition. Established in 1878 as a foundation by Frankfurt burgher Dr. Joseph Hoch, it unites under one roof all aspects of musical training, from Early Musical Education to the academic degree of Bachelor of Music. Numerous important musicians are associated with Dr. Hoch’s Conservatory - Paul Hindemith, Engelbert Humperdinck, Otto Klemperer, and Clara Schumann, to name but a few.

With the broad range of subjects offered as part of an academic degree in music, the conservatory equips its students with all the skills necessary for working as a professional musician in the 21st century. The academic departments offer a range of practical courses open to school leavers with A-Levels and to talented young musicians with O-Levels. All the instrumental subjects, voice, elementary music education, and composition can be studied in a contemporary four-year course augmented by a range of practical study projects.

The “Pre-College-Frankfurt” Department offers tailor-made courses for highly talented young musicians from the age of 12 wishing to prepare for entry examinations for instrumental and music theory / ear training studies at music colleges.

The “Music Education for Youth and Adults” Department offers qualified tuition by professional teachers to talented persons of all ages without aiming at professional musical qualifications.

In addition to the “Department of Composition and New Music”, the institute also has a “Department of Early Music” as well as a ballet school.
