Prime function of the Catholic Film Work - founded in 1953 and domiciled
in Frankfurt since 1972 - is to monitor the market for productions relevant
for church education and media activities, to purchase non-commercial distribution
licenses, produce copies and media-political flanking material and to market
the film copies and/or video cassettes.
The keywords market monitoring, examination, license purchase, production
of basis material and editing accompanying material aptly describe the
functions of the programme division AV media. By contacts to film colleges,
editorial boards of broadcasting stations, and freelance producers,
visits to relevant film festivals and ongoing observation of television
programmes, employees put together an overview of the current status of
the film market. Interesting programmes are viewed in proven cooperation
with programme councils and the short film committee and recommended for
license purchase.
In addition to the brochure KFW TOTALE, an overall catalogue is issued
every two years giving an overview of available films. Customers of the
Film Work alongside church, state and communal lending centres are now
increasingly more smaller institutions from the non-commercial education
field: media libraries, schools, parishes, religious education centres
and school/college institutes with interest in selected theme-oriented
media.
Criteria for programme selection remain unchanged with high formal quality
and content.
