The interest group „Interessengemeinschaft der Galerien Frankfurt“ was established as early as 1984 by the Frankfurt art galleries, with the aim of providing the public with a consistent, high standard of exhibitions, expertise, and sale of contemporary art. The association is based on the statutes of the Federal Association of German Galleries and Fine Art Dealers (Bundesverband Deutscher Galerien), which specify guidelines for galleries on the organisation of exhibitions, and on their duties and responsibilities towards the artists represented. Having originally started out with 22 members, the group now numbers over thirty galleries; their programme is available as a brochure or online.
