Frankfurt am Main has many facets: it is a city of coronations, the cradle of German democracy and a popular location for trade fairs and, of course, the European centre of finance. Referred to for the first time as Franconofurd in 794, Frankfurt has become increasingly important as the place of major cultural, economic and political events.
